Anyway, for Jason's Christmas present I decided to finish painting some of the house. I never know what to buy him, and he is always saying how he wants things done at home. So, the last week that he was gone I got busy and did some painting. All the trim in our house is an ugly cream color. So, I painted trim in our upstairs landing and hallway, and painted those walls. Then I tackled the bedroom. For those of you who have never seen our house, our bedroom is ginormous. There is a ton of wasted space, and Jason and I talked about what it would look like if we made it into two rooms. Anyway, I painted all the trim in the room and then had to strip off the wallpaper border around the top. I prepped it three times by scoring it and coating it with hot water and Diff wallpaper remover and still it did not budge. Three hours later and a million holes ripped in the sheet rock I was finally done. Then I had to spackle the wall, sand it off, tape it off, cut it in and finally start rolling. I didn't get to rolling until 8:00 Thursday night (Jason got home Friday). I wanted it done before he got home. Then, after the rolling came the vaulted ceiling where our ceiling fan is. It was unbelievably hard. I had to paint the trim, and then get on a ladder in between the fan blades and paint and roll. It took me longer than the rolling of the walls. I got done around 12:30 am and finished cleaning the room and moving all the furniture back into place. Jason loved it and I could tell that he really appreciated it. He said it was my most thoughtful gift yet! I will try to get some more done the next time he's out of town, but for now, I am DONE!!
Here are some pics of before and after!!
This is with all the furniture pulled to the center of the room. I had to move all of that on my own!

Ok, I was just loving this blog until you said "Go Patriots" Puke. But it looks SO good Val, you did such a nice job. I can tell how hard you worked! Way to go!You're a wonderful wife :) And mom of course!
C'mon now, I peeled off at least 5 or 6 square inches of wallpaper, one square inch at a time.
I think your ginormous bedroom looks fantastic. I really like the color. Now about that bedspread...
Wallpaper is of the devil. What you really should have gotten Jason for Christmas was a $35 t-shirt from Japan. Oh wait, he already has one of those... Make sure you keep Allison coming over- it makes for great pictures with Anna!
Oh Valerie, what a thoughtful thing to do for Jason. I can't imagine how exhausted you must have been. So will that about do it for the next 20 years?!
Kara...sorry about the Patriots comment. You know what happens when I married someone who loves the Broncos, all my sense of loyalty goes out the window and I root for the team that someone I know likes!! Oh wait, like the Red Sox!!
Katherine...I'm waiting until next credit card statement and then that bedspread will be mine!!
Dylan...Yes, he is a sucker isn't he!! And I plan on bringing Allie over quite a bit...who else is going to teach her how to sit properly in a bumbo!
Alice...I think that I've at least earned 5 or 10 years off! Or maybe I can start saying, "well honey I did do that entire room for you, so can I get these new pair of shoes!?!"
I say go for the shoes while the gratitude is still fresh.
And, the Broncos aren't really all that horrible...Although they're doing pretty stinky right now, along with the rest of their division.
Red Sox is Boston? Is Jason a Rockies Fan too?
I am on my knees bowing to you, my niece, the Wonder Woman of painting the ginormous bedroom & ceiling as well. Mercy. AND with an almost 1 year old baby. Geez. I'm not going to spread that around. You make me look pitiful. What a thoughtful and unique gift for your husband. Seriously, be careful with your back. I'm still paying today for things I did at your age....moving furniture by myself. Love the color. Where did you get it and what is the name? We want to paint our basement a light blue color.
