He had greater than 70 eosinophils (per whatever measure they use) in his esophagus at last check. You need 15 to diagnose EE. So he had a lot. We did all the testing I've spoken about previously, and have been waiting for a repeat biopsy. Since we've removed wheat, beef and peas from his diet, we have totally eradicated any eosinophils. He had 1-2 in his lower esophageal junction with his stomach, but that is entirely normal.
What this means...
We stay the course. We continue to keep him on the gluten, beef and pea free diet and thicken liquids as needed. He is tolerating thinner consistencies, and my guess is that he won't need his thickener within the next 6 months. We'll re-scope in April or May since they would like to have a second clear scope to ensure that the negative eosinophil count wasn't due to the steroids he took - that they may not have allowed enough time for the eosinophils to re-accumulate. If that one is also clear, then we can work on reintroducing foods into his diet when he's older. I'm guessing we won't start that until he's 3 or 4 and can communicate with us well enough for us to know if those foods bother him. As far as a repeat swallow study...I'm in no hurry. I know the symptoms. He hasn't been choking near as much lately, and I'm comfortable just watching him. I'm guessing we'll do it again at some point, but I'm not going to rush it.
Praise God for progress!!!
