I was told recently by a friend of mine that I blogged for so long about Andrew's eating problems...then promptly stopped. Time for an update.
We have been eliminating wheat, beef, peas and quinoa (which he'd never had anyway). We are still thickening his liquids and he drinks mostly milk and watered down V8 fusion light. He doesn't eat much meat, except for his turkey sausage and bacon. He's not a fan of hot dogs or gluten-free chicken nuggets, and he doesn't eat any vegetables except edamame. He's really into feeding himself now, so it's a lot of yogurt and applesauce, fruit, gluten-free cereal bars and snacks. There's a great gluten-free bakery in St. Louis and my in-laws have brought me gluten-free flour. I can make pretty much anything by just replacing the flour and he does a great job of eating it. He loves banana bread, and I just made some gluten-free sugar cookies that he loves.
He has been off his steroid for 2 months now, and we have his follow up scope scheduled for Monday morning - bright and early at CMH downtown. We should know if a couple days if he has improved. If things are looking pretty good, then we can just continue the current diet. If it's not better...we'll have to start over. More than likely we'll head towards the 6 food elimination diet. Wheat, eggs, milk, soy, peanuts and strawberries, as well as the peas, beef and quinoa that already showed up. I'm a little nervous. He's done great on this diet, and I'm tempted to just keep thickening things for another 4-6 months to see if he either grows out of things, or can talk and tell us if a food bothers him.
He's growing like crazy. Already 5 pounds bigger than Allison was at 2 years. He hates to be put down, but I'm definitely having to do that a whole lot more these days. He's too stinking big!!!
