Andrew turns 3!!

For some reason it's been really hard for me to come to terms with the fact that my little boy is growing up. I'm not that sentimental mom that tries to keep my kids little. Much of me is looking forward to retirement. I guess it's easy to say that when I'm tired. "In the trenches" they call it. But growing up he is, and we celebrated his 3rd birthday this last week.

His actual birthday fell on a Friday. I was leaving for Nashville that afternoon to visit my sister, so we wanted to make his morning as special as we could. We filled his room up with balloons. I was stirred awake with his big brown eyes in my face, whispering, "Mommy, there's balloons in my room." They played for a few minutes while I made breakfast.

Andrew can't have many breakfast foods. He can't have gluten, and he despises eggs. So, I found a gluten free pancake mix that isn't half bad. He wanted pancakes, so that's what he got.

Jason's parents were here as they were going to help out while I was in Nashville. He opened a few presents with them there and seemed to have a good time. We don't spend that much on our kids for birthdays if we can help it. We just bought them a swing set and figure that until they know the difference, we'll keep saving the money. He got a scooter, some bubbles (he loves bubbles...reminds me of that fish on Nemo!), monkeys in a barrel (from Allison) and a few other little things like stickers. He was happy. Jason's parents and brother got him that big FAO Swartz floor piano you see in the background. Loves it!!

Of course what's better than a scooter and a floor piano? Riding your scooter over your floor piano!!

I was gone to Nashville for 4 days (more on that later), and when I came back, I felt like I had to get to know Isaac all over again. This is what I came home to :) Look at those little teeth!!

On to the party. We had it this last Saturday and it was a lot of fun. My family and friend Katie with her family came and it went off without a hitch :)

Pirates seem kinda' trendy right now, but my kids have loved pirates for a while. They dressed as pirates for Halloween and have swords all over the house. A treasure chest cake only made sense. And of course, the 400 gold doubloons I got from Party City were a must! (they are now all over the house and I sincerely regret it).

A friend of mine from college days saw me "pinning" pirate stuff on Pinterest and offered me some of her goodies from her son's pirate party. She had some good stuff!! Her sister made these flags and I put them on the watermelon boat (so fun), and she had made a plank that I borrowed for the kids to "walk."

Look at my little Cap'n Scruffy!!

Argh!!

Walking the plank turned into jumping the plank. I got some cute pictures. The kids had bandanas and little foam swords. They all really got into it.

Andrew (getting a little help from Aunt Leah)

He was so cute when they sang to him. He just smiled sheepishly and seemed genuinely pleased. Yes, I made that shirt, but before you call me "Martha," let me tell you that I printed out the number and had, cut pieces out of felt and just spray glued them to a shirt. Took all of 10 minutes. And spray glue doesn't really work with felt, so it fell off after about 30 minutes.

He absolutely makes me melt sometimes. His eyes are killer and he will just smile at me and it's like voodoo, sucking me in and controlling me. Little stinker.

This was so great! Dane got frosting everywhere. For some reason he and Andrew decided to eat their cupcakes like puppies. It was everywhere!!! Andrew's shirt was beyond help at this point. Funny kids!

Trike from grammy and papa. The bell was a big hit :)

Goody bags with candy, gold doubloons, bubbles and a little ball. They had so much sugar by the end of the night I'm surprised anyone slept!

One dirty birthday boy!!!

OMG, love the ones of Andrew scrunching up his face and grinning with frosting around his mouth. Such a cute party!
