This weekend we are feeding him halfway frozen yogurt and pureed foods. The colder and more solid, the better. He's been drinking what I call milkshakes. Very thickened milk that I have been putting Carnation Instant Breakfast in for extra calories/nutrition. He actually loves it, and he doesn't cough and sputter when he drinks. That makes me so happy, and breaks my heart at the same time, thinking that he's been having so much trouble with sippy cups. We've been letting him eat NutraGrain bars as that was one thing they said he would do well with since it is dense and chewy. I'm still letting him have the occasional yogurt bite or puff. I figure he's been doing it for so long, what can a weekend hurt. We're trying some banana right now. Truly, there is nothing he's eating that he isn't struggling with. For anyone who didn't know (including myself as of a few days ago), you would never think that he was aspirating. He seems fine, just has a bit of a cough. But now that I know that is because of his aspiration, I feel terrible.
Anyway, we're just hanging out here trying to act as normal as possible. I'm getting the kids pictures taken Monday...just because.
Thanks for all the prayers.
Valerie
